1954, SALVADOR DALÍ 51 YEARS OLD
After the year 1954, many of Dalí’s speeches and works revolved around a new obsession: the rhinoceros’ horn. According to the painter, this element contained “the most visible proportions of nature, the stroke of God”, and it was present in one of his favorite paintings, La puntaire de Veermer. Dalí’s fixation on rhinoceros’ horns was another episode in the painter’s career towards maximum notoriety. Demonstrating a great mastery of the logic of the media, the artist conscientiously prepared each of his public appearances. The painter was able to commission a 12-meter loaf of bread to advertise a conference or to appear at a talk on board a Rolls-Royce full of cauliflowers. Anything went as long as it attracted attention.
